The wall panels have been decoratively painted using a trompe l’oeil (literal
translation is “trick of the eye”) technique to create the illusion of threedimensional
objects on a two-dimensional surface, namely raised center
panels and panel gram moldings, exhibiting shadows and highlights.
The lovely mantel in the drawing room is a replica of the one in the President’s
Cottage on the grounds of the elegant Greenbrier Hotel in White
Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
